Age and sex structures

WorldPop produces different types of gridded population count datasets, depending on the methods used and end application. Please make sure you have read our page on choosing the right WorldPop population data before downloading a dataset.

Bespoke methods designed in co-production with governments and UN agencies to produce datasets for specific countries are available through the WorldPop Open Population Repository (WOPR), and can be visually explored through the WoprVision App. These are 100m resolution gridded population estimates developed for a single recent time point using local data and tailored covariates in customized models. Before accessing the multi-temporal global datasets below, consider whether these bespoke data may fit your needs as they likely represent more accurate estimates when single recent timepoint datasets for specific countries are required.
For users interested in gridded population datasets covering all countries and multiple years, produced using consistent methods, the ‘Global2’ datasets available here may fit your needs. Please read our blog describing the general features of these data or our more technically detailed release statement before using them.
Here, country-specific population count datasets disaggregated by age and sex at 100m and 1km spatial resolution, and global datasets at 1km resolution are available for each year from 2015 to 2030 in Geotiff format. More information can be found in the Release Statement.

If you are looking for our old ‘Global1’ 2000-2020 datasets, then these are archived here.
